The PHD of Baseball Winter Camp

The PHD of Baseball Winter Camp is a High School Baseball Readiness Program designed by Gus Kaplanges the Varsity Head Coach at Annapolis HS. The Panthers Baseball Program has been the recipients of the prestigious American Baseball Coaches Association's (ABCA) Team Academic Excellence Award the past 3 years in a row, 2017, 2018 & 2019.  Ever since Coach Kaplanges took the helm in 2017 he has infused enthusiasm and pride back into the Annapolis HS Baseball Program by winning Playoff Games 3 years in a row too! The 2017 Playoff win was the first State Playoff Victory since Annapolis Baseball won the State Championship back in 1988. Now Coach Gus Kaplanges and his staff are preparing for the 2020 season and hope to see a great turn out of all the incoming freshmen, underclassmen and upperclassmen at the winter camp. Coach Kaplanges explained "By motivating our players to COMPETE IN THE CLASSROOM daily they create positive life-long habits that translate onto the field and in life. By holding them accountable, they are able to carry a great GPA, program wide, from Varsity on down to JV, thanks to the entire Coaching Staff reinforcing our PHD of Baseball philosophy."

"This was a program wide accomplishment. It is very rare to see a HS sports team, program wide, carry such a high GPA, a very impressive 3.76 GPA. It was just another example of how hard the 2017, 2018 & 2019 guys have worked on earning their PHD of Baseball...Pride, Heart, Determination. We are confident that the 2020 squad will once again dominate in the classroom and keep this tradition going strong. It all begins in this winter camp."

"We have a great group of student/athletes coming back and talented freshmen coming into the program this season. They will continue to grow our successes on the field and in the classroom in 2020. The PHD of Baseball Winter Camp serves to get our baseball players properly prepared and on the right path for success in 2019 as the Panthers Pride train rolls down the tracks and into the season."

The PHD of Baseball Winter Camp will be administered by Coach James Kaplanges who is an American Baseball Coaches Association, Bay Bridge Baseball Academy, CrabFest Baseball, BASES and Top Velocity Baseball Authorized Coach/Instructor and a Certified Annapolis HS Varsity Baseball CoachJames is also a highly sought after private instructor and on staff at Chesapeake College. He will be assisted by Coach David Rogers of the BBBA and Annapolis HS 4 Year Letterman and Alumni. Alongside with Coach Christian Marciano a Former Varsity 4 Year Varsity Player under Coach Gus Kaplanges at a previous high school, as well as a former 4 year Collegiate Player at Pfeiffer University. Both of these coaches have been under the tutelage of Coach Gus Kaplanges from their childhood playing days and were hand picked for this very important instructional and developmental winter program for High School Baseball Players from 8th-12th Grades. If you know of an 8th grade future Annapolis HS baseball player that would like to participate in this camp please share this link for them to register them too.

This is an 8 week program that will focus on educating players on the importance of proper conditioning, grooving their swings, throwing mechanics, arm care  & leg drive . It will prepare them for Tryouts and the Spring season. This Camp will properly prepare the player's arms, bats, gloves, footwork, balance and instill a positive mental approach for tryouts on March 2nd.  This camp will also improve skills and knowledge of the game for the 2020 spring season.  By participating in this Winter Camp players will Learn the PHD of Baseball and the Panther Way of Annapolis Baseball, while refining their tools of the game.

High School Baseball Tryouts begin on March 2nd. Coach Kaplanges explains, "It will be here before you know it and if your not prepared properly, your arm will get sore and you will not perform well at the tryouts, especially if you can't throw the baseball because your arm, shoulder or elbow hurts, during the evaluations it's going to influence how you will be ranked in our system this year. You will be evaluated on how fast you run, how hard your throwing velocity is, how hard you can hit the baseball with barrel control, aka, "exit velocity" as well as, glove work, your ability to play advanced catch, and your athleticism in terms of baseball movements, along with your attitude & aptitude for the Panther Way. These data driven abilities dictate the speed of your game. The speed of your game will dictate your level (JV or Varsity) and where you will play on the field. The time to prepare is now! You will be improving these measure-ables by attending this camp. Be prepared to Throw Hard, Run Fast and Hit it Square! Register for camp and get your PHD of Baseball = PRIDE! HEART! DETERMINATION!" The Panther Way and our approach to the game. See a more detailed explanation of the PHD of Baseball on the front page of
